We campaign on several fronts and need the
help of League Against Cruel Sports supporters in the region
so that we can campaign even more effectively. We need your
help with:
-
Information
and Campaign Stalls: We regularly holds
stalls, predominately in Lancashire, with the aim
of raising awareness of the League Against Cruels
Sports campaigns.
-
Local
Campaigns: United Utilities allow the Holcombe
Hunt to use their facilities at Rivington Hall Barn
on Boxing Day as a base for hunting hares. Many events
already planned for late spring and summer 2004.
-
School
Talks: Our opponets are keen to target
children as they know that this is the most likely
chance they have influencing them, we are more than
happy to put up the alternative viewpoint for the
sake of wildlife in Britain.
-
Hunt Monitoring:
Hunt monitoring is a simple but effective way to help
the campaign against bloodsports. It allows us to
show the reality of hunting which is far removed from
what the hunters would have you believe. We are happy
for any LACS member to join us.
-
Press
Interviews and discussions: The Countryside
Alliance have many representives in the region who
enjoy the sound of their own voice and we are happy
to let the public decide who is more open and honest.
-
Media
Writing: Whenever possible we reply to
letters in the local papers from the Countryside Alliance
although newspapers are more likely to print replies
from members of the public. If you come across any
pro-hunt related stories or letters in the local media
please forward them to us, we can't promise to respond
to them but do enjoy reading what they have to say.
-
Various:
Whether it is leafleting, helping at our stalls or
fundraising we are always glad to have more volunteers.
Simple contact us and tell us how you might want to
get involved.
The North West League Against Cruel Sports
support group was formed in July 2003 and combines the Lancashire
and Cheshire LACS support groups who had been working together
for some time.
The Cheshire LACS support group was formed
many years ago, longer than anyone cares to remember in fact,
whilst the Lancashire LACS support group was formed in 1997
with the help of Janet Smart. Both groups campaigned for wildlife
and the abolition of hunting wild animals with dogs in the
North West region of England. We cover a number of hunts in
this area but do occasionally go further afield when required.
Volunteers from all over the region regularly take part in
a number of activities, which vary from simple letter writing
to active monitoring.
Part of our role is to assist League
Against Cruel Sports headquarters with their local and
regional campaigns. Correspondence from League HQ comes
to local reps and co-ordinators on a weekly basis, so
our members are always up to date with national events.
Over the years we have held a number of public information
stalls and our hunt monitors have gained press coverage
over incidents that local hunts have been involved in.
One of our major targets is the Waterloo Cup,
a hare coursing event held annually in Great Altcar near Southport.
This event involves two greyhounds being set on a hare to
see which one "performs best". This often results
in the hare becoming a living rope in a tug of war between
the dogs.
People from all walks of life take part in
our activities; we have students, hospital workers, accountants,
officer workers, care workers, postmen and more. Please
come and help us in our work, as we are always keen to
receive new members, whatever their role might be. Help
us to end the cruelty and barbarity which is hunting with
dogs.
