Cheshire Hunt Master Gulity
Thomas Randle Cooke, a Master of the Cheshire Hunt, must fork out £3,500 after pleading guilty to breaking laws aimed at disease control in cattle following the advent of 'mad cow disease'. Cooke is at least the fifth member of the Cheshire Hunt convicted of breaking the law. (9.7.04)

Boxing Day Threats
Anti-hunt protesters have complained to Cheshire Constabulary after two demonstrators were targeted by pro-hunt supporters. The alleged incidents happened as members of the League Against Cruel Sports demonstrated against the Cheshire Forest Hunt at Lach Dennis, Northwich, on Boxing Day. A teacher alleged she was pushed over by a man. Another woman complained she was threatened by a female hunt supporter. (7.1.04)

Blood-sports Protesters Call for Resignations
AN ANTI-HUNT group is calling for the suspension of the Cheshire Hunt as well as the resignation of its top officials. The call from the North West League Against Cruel Sports comes after its hounds got out of control in the Duddon and Clotton areas, resulting in one of its members, Chris Owen, having his hand bitten while in his garden. (23.1.04)

Hunting Attack Dog Test Case
THE Cheshire Hunt may be prosecuted over an incident when a pack of dogs attacked a man in his own garden. Cheshire Constabulary has confirmed it will be passing a file to the Crown Prosecution Service. (6.2.04)

Royal Rock Beagles Mistreated
THE League Against Cruel Sports has urged huntsmen to show more compassion for their dogs after hunt monitors witnessed hounds being left tangled in barbed wire. The dogs from the Royal Rock Beagles struggled in the wire for several minutes, before eventually being lifted over the fence during the hunt near Belmont Hall in Great Budworth.

Cheshire - Hunt Members in Court
Two hunt supporters from Cheshire have appeared at Crewe Magistrates Court facing various assault charges against the police. Anthony Kirkham (58) (pictured handcuffed left) and his son Timothy Kirkham (20) appeared in court following an incident at the Cheshire Hunt's annual ‘Farmers Hunt Ball’. (3.3.03)

Kirkham Convicted
A Cheshire farmer and huntsman with both the Cheshire Foxhounds and Cheshire Forest Hunt who deliberately and persistently ignored foot-and-mouth disease controls was ordered by a court to pay almost £17,000. In delivering sentence, Magistrates said Mr Kirkham had deliberately ignored the law and blatantly disregarded the farming community and the public. (Nov 03)

How Now, Brown Cow
A Cheshire Foxhounds and Cheshire Forest Hunt member who sold a bogus cow to a local abattoir using false papers has been ordered to pay fines and court costs of more than £2200 following action by Lancashire County Council's Trading Standards Department. Leyland magistrates heard how Anthony Kirkham, 58, had sold the cow for £346 to the abattoir in Bamber Bridge. (22.5.03)

Another Season of Hunt Violence
Threats and violence marked another season of hunting in Cheshire. Hunt Sabs were on the receiving end of most of it but increasingly hunt monitors are being targetted. (1.3.03)

Injured Hound Dragged
The Cheshire Forest Hunt have been criticised for dragging an injured hound that was clearly unable to walk. Only the intervention of hunt monitors ensured it was carried to a vehicle. The hunt refused to say whether the hound would received proper treatment from a vet or simply shot. (7.12.02)

Hunt Supporters Sick Stunt
The fox left hanging below a pro-hunting sign is believed to have been put there by the Real Countryside Alliance just days after the opening meet of the Cheshire Hunt. The grisly scene was clearly visible to walkers and passing motorists. 'These people are going beyond the grounds of decency in their campaign to save hunting,' said Chris Owen of the Animal Cruelty Investigation Alliance.

'This latest act of displaying a dead fox alongside their own sign is appalling and would no doubt have shocked and angered a great many users of that road. Hunt leaders will often distance themselves from such activities by claiming anti-hunt people have done it, which is a complete and utter nonsense. Just how low will these people stoop?,' Mr Owen asked.

'You will notice that the word REAL is in capitals. This is significant as it clearly refers to the Real Countryside Alliance, whose members - many of whom are countryside alliance members - have also been causing thousands of pounds worth of damage to road signs by spraying and stickering,' he claimed.
