Duck Killed at Hoghton Tower

16.9.2006 - Warburtons Duck Shoot Protest

Supporters of the North West League Against Cruel Sports staged peaceful protests at Warburtons original grocery shop and bakery headquarters in Bolton today urging Warburtons Chairman to use his influence on his brother-in-law to save the Hoghton Tower ducks.

Many people associate Warburtons with ducks after the company ran a series of advert featuring members of the Warburton family and ducks in order to promote their products. Less well known is that a member of the Warburton family is the head of a duck shoot.

Martin Kippax, brother-in-law of Warburtons Chairman Jonathan Warburton, is the Hoghton Tower shoot captain. Up to 8,000 ducks and 25,000 pheasants are shot for 'sport' on the Hoghton Tower estate each year.

Martin Kippax's wife, Jill Kippax née Warburton, along with Jonathan Warburton selected the child who played the part of the Warburton family member in their famous duck adverts (source Bolton Evening News).

Warburtons proudly boast of being a 'family bakers' and have featured several family members in their adverts. However when challanged about a family member being head of a duck shoot Warburtons claim that this is a 'private matter'!
