| 1994 - Hunt kills sheep and twenty-four
hounds |
|
Twenty-four hounds belonging to the Flint
and Denbigh Hunt in North Wales were shot by
their masters after worrying sheep and killing one of
them on land belonging to Mr. Michael Griffith, Chairman
of the Countryside Council of Wales. Police did not take
action after the sheep worrying incident - a criminal
offence - despite Joint Master Rowley-Williams admitting
that 'It's not as if they were out of control...'.
The League Against Cruel Sports receives
dozens of reports of hounds worrying sheep as well as
cattle. Farmers often have to go to extraordinary lengths
to keep the hunt off their land. Despite this, public
relations officer, Tony Brunskill of the British Field
Sports Society said, 'It is the first time I have ever
heard of hounds worrying sheep.' However, BFSS Director
Peter Voute admitted, 'It is not uncommon for one or two
hounds to be destroyed humanely from time to time for
worrying sheep.'

Note: The
Ludlow Hunt was also responsible for the death of
a sheep in the 1994.
